Congratulations, Myriam!

Jacky was selected as the inaugural J.C. (Tito) Scaiano Graduate Student of the Year by uOttawa's Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences! The award is presented to students who demonstrate outstanding achievements in research, leadership, and citizenship. Well done Jacky!

Jacky presented at Pacifichem 2021 in the Assessment for Employability in Undergraduate Chemistry Education symposium. Jacky's talk focused on his research looking at the relationship between students' language proficiency and how students justified chemical phenomena. You can read more about the work on ChemRxIV.

In addition to his talk, Jacky's abstract was also selected as a finalist for Pacifichem's Student Research Competition (pending results)!

A paper by Jacky, Nick and Alison titled “Response Process Validity Evidence in Chemistry Education Research” has been published in the Journal of Chemical Education! Congratulations!

Jacky organized a recent publication in the Journal of Chemical Education focused on chemistry graduate student equity, diversity, and inclusion communities. The article describes various initiatives focused on enhancing EDI in chemistry departments across North America, grounding the impacts of these initiatives in literature on learning communities, community cultural wealth, and cultural change.

Congratulations to Jacky and co-authors Leah McMunn, Meagan Oakley, Hoang Dang, and Becky Rodriguez!

Alison touched on several topics, including improving learning outcomes, empowering students, and emphasizing that anything learned in the classroom can be applied to the real world.
