New publication on Systems Thinking in Chemistry Education!

Congratulations to Alisha, Alison, and collaborator Dr. Peter Mahaffy for their latest publication in the Journal of Chemical Education!

They investigated systems thinking (ST) skills chemistry students do/do not naturally demonstrate during ST tasks, which implications for where place emphasis on teaching ST skills in a chemistry course.

Additionally, they created a ST rubric as a tool for assessing ST learning outcomes (LOs) whcih:

  • can be modified to elicit ST LOs aligned with a ST activity taught in your course

  • provides a way to assess ST tasks that encompass multiple forms of assessment (e.g., concept maps, written and verbal responses)

Thank you to SSHRC for funding this research through Alisha's CGS-D and an Insight Grant.
